Erzgebirge /Krušnohoří Mining region
Over 800 years of mining. Two countries. One heritage.
The transboundary UNESCO World Heritage Site Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining region comprises 22 component parts: 17 on the Saxon and 5 on the Czech side of the Ore Mountains. Representative for numerous material witnesses of mining in the Ore Mountains the selected monuments, natural and cultural landscapes represent the most important mining areas and epochs of the Saxon-Bohemian ore mining.
They show the diverse mining heritage of the region and how the centuries-long mining has left its unmistakable mark on the cultural landscape.
But not only above-ground and underground testimonies of the mining industry are part of it. In the UNESCO World Heritage Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining region, you will also find historic town and mining landscapes – winding town centres, massive churches, and heaps that crisscross the landscape like strings of pearls.
